The charger is the accessory people think about least, and it is the one most likely to affect your phone battery in the long run. A few minutes of checking before you buy can save you a lot of trouble.
Match the wattage to your phone
Every phone has a maximum charging speed. A charger that is too weak will be slow, and one that is far more powerful is safe only if it negotiates the right power with your phone. Look for a charger that supports the fast-charging standard your phone uses.
Do not ignore the cable
A thin, poorly made cable limits charging speed and frays quickly. Choose a braided cable with reinforced ends, and check that it is rated for the wattage you need.
Quick checklist
- Certified brand or clearly labelled specifications
- Overheating protection
- Cable length that fits your desk or bedside
- A warranty or a store that will actually help you
If a charger feels very hot, smells odd or works only when the cable is bent a certain way, stop using it. Replacing a cable costs far less than replacing a phone.
