Hair Oil 101: Almond, Argan and How to Use Them

Hair oiling is one of the oldest care habits around, and for good reason. Done well, it reduces dryness, tames frizz and keeps your scalp comfortable.

Almond oil

Almond oil is rich and nourishing, which makes it a favourite for scalp massage. It is ideal for dry scalps and for anyone who wants a traditional pre-wash treatment.

Argan oil

Argan oil is lighter and absorbs quickly. A few drops on the ends after washing add shine and reduce frizz without weighing hair down.

A few drops, applied consistently, beat a lot of oil applied once.

How to use them

  1. Warm a small amount between your palms.
  2. Massage into the scalp with your fingertips for five minutes.
  3. Leave on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for very dry hair.
  4. Wash with a gentle shampoo.

If your hair is fine or gets greasy quickly, use less oil and concentrate on the lengths rather than the roots. Consistency matters more than quantity, so once or twice a week is plenty.
